Erlend Øye e Eirik Glambek Bøe são dois noruegueses nascidos em 1975 e amigos desde os 11 anos. Antes de formarem o Kings of Convenience, ambos tocaram no Skog, que apesar de terem gravado um EP, não fizeram tanto sucesso.

Em 1999, Erlend e Eirik montaram o Kings of Convenience com uma idéia simples: violões e vozes calmas em melodias sutis. Dois anos depois lançaram o primeiro álbum, Quiet is the new loud, que foi muito bem aceito pelas rádios europeias.
E 2004, lançaram o Riot On A Empty Street, que mantém a mesma idéia do primeiro disco. O disco tem participação da Leslie Feist em duas faixas (Know How e Build Up), e o single I'd rather dance with you foi escolhido como o melhor clipe de 2004 pela Mtv européia.
